Twin Warriors Kennel

Passionate Breeders of European Dobermans

At Twin Warriors Kennel, we specialize in breeding European pedigree Dobermans. Doberman breeding is part of our heritage. Our family started breeding Dobermans in the 70s; and we continue that legacy with Twin Warriors Kennel.

Our breeding program prioritizes longevity, health, and temperament to ensure the best canine companions, athletes and service animals. We are not high volume breeders. We are not in this for the money. We believe in thoughtful pedigree evaluation. We believe in the working dog designation of the Dobermans breed. We believe in hands-on puppy rearing and well-rounded training beginning at the 2nd day of life. We believe in matching individuals and families to the right puppy for their lifestyle, interests and needs.

Our experience with Twin Warriors was exceptional; their dogs are truly remarkable. Valor is more than I could ask for in a service dog. She is an essential part of my healthcare team and has become a beloved part of our family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of Dobermans do you offer?

We specialize in breeding European pedigree Dobermans known for their health and temperament. The appearance of the European is a matter of preference. There are many handsome American pedigree Dobermans. We happen to prefer the European aesthetic,

We breed to the AKC and UKC Doberman standards of size, weight and coat color. Dobermans are considered a working dog. They should appear muscular and powerful yet still sleek and agile.  They are built for both speed and endurance. They should not appear bulky or oversized, nor too delicate and petite. A well bred Doberman should not be mistaken for a Rottweiler, a Grate Dane, a Greyhound nor a Wippet.

Our Dobermans are standard black and rust colored with appropriate tan markings. While AKC recognizes blue and fawn colors as well; those dogs often develop significant dermatological issues that can become a burden to the dog and its owners.

We do not breed for - nor support the breeding of - exotic colors. Melanistic, albanism, or merle colored Dobermans are not breed standard. When breeders start breeding for color or allowing for non-standard colors, they are not breeding to the American or European standards for the breed. We breed for black/tan or red/tan Dobermans only.

How do you ensure health?

We conduct thorough health screenings and genetic testing to promote longevity and well-being in our dogs. Our dogs receive their routine healthcare including age appropriate vaccines. We titer-test our dogs where appropriate. All of our dogs are OFA tested, and receive annual cardiac screenings. Breeding dogs receive a breeding suitability exam prior to each mating. Regardless of age, we feed a heart-healthy, DCM-conscious diet.

Twin Warrior dogs and puppies are appropriately exercised for their age. No forced running or jumping for puppies before their growth plates are fused. We do NOT remove the dew claws on our puppies. That "floating" thumb is vital for forelimb stability in working dogs; removing it increases the risk for early onset arthritis in the forelimbs and feet.

Mental health is part of our philosophy. Our dogs are well socialized. This means they are regularly exposed to a variety of situations and environments both familiar and novel. They receive ongoing  desentization for touch/handling and sound. Problem solving, confidence, emotional resilience are all part of our socialization and aggression-prevention philosophy for mentally sound dogs.

What is your breeding philosophy?

Our philosophy focuses on breeding Dobermans that excel in health, longevity, and temperament. We weigh the good and the bad of potential dams and sires, and choose pairings with specific goals in mind.

We analyze the genetics of individual dogs, and how each individual dog's health influences the preservation and genetic diversity of the breed. We consider size, weight, structural soundness, athleticism and general fitness. Many people believe Dobermans to be firmly in the "large" bracket of dog sizes and are surprised to learn that breed standard for females is 60-90 lbs with makes running 75-100 lbs. In general, a large Doberman weighing in at 120 lbs is at risk for a variety of health issues.

We look for longevity multiple generations back in both dam and sire lines. Regardless of health testing, genetic testing, good nutrition, routine health (including cardiac) testing - the best predictor of longevity in any given dog is longevity in the pedigree.

A good Doberman temperament is not just a well-mannered dog. Every Doberman should embody the appropriate drive and behaviors associated with the Doberman breed standard: intelligent, loyal, protective, alert, and energetic.

We want Dobermans to be well-behaved in addition to well-bred. We embrace the Puppy Culture philosophies for foundational puppy training. Once puppies are matched, we work with new owners regarding current training and obedience levels; as well as the next steps to take as the puppy matures. We assist owners with training knowledge and skills to promote a smooth transition and successful placement. For owners looking to bypass the dreaded "velociraptor" stage of Doberman life, we do offer the opportunity to be matched with an adolescent pup with more than just foundational obedience training.

Ear posting has its own special place in our training resources. A puppy with cropped ears will need its ears posted every 3-5 days until the ears are firm and the scalp muscles strong enough to hold the ears erect. Proud Doberman ears don't happen until a pup is 8-12 months old. A long show crop can take even longer. We offer taping assistance and education to all owners, not just for pups we produce.

What is your placement policy?

Interested families and individuals go through an application process so that we understand the current lifestyle as well as the expectations for the puppy. Sport dog? Service/ESA? Conformation? Family pet? Protection? First time dog owner? Experienced handler? All of this information helps us match puppies to new families. Our goal is a fur-ever home for each of our puppies.

We encourage interested parties to reach out early. We prefer to build relationships with our puppy owners rather than simply sell a dog. The more you know about Twin Warriors and the more we know about you, the better the match and placement.

This all sounds so serious. Do you guys have any fun?

There are Twin Warrior Dobermans living all across the US.  We encourage all potential owners to come meet their puppy in person, but we know that isn't always possible. We will work with you to find an appropriate means of transportation if that is the case. Some of our puppies have flown to their new homes. Others have traveled with commercial pet couriers. Some owners have chosen to fly in and drive their pup home themselves, or had friends or family help with transportation. We are happy to work with you regardless of your your location.

Do you work with owners that live somewhere other than Texas?

Absolutely! While dog breeding is a serious responsibility that requires dedication, knowledge, and care for the animals, we also believe that having fun is a crucial part of the process. We want to raise well-adjusted and happy Dobermans that are a joy to live and work with. Our team engages in plenty of playful activities with our Dobes, from pup playdates to training sessions that involve games and toys. These moments not only strengthen the bond between us and the dogs but also contribute to their socialization and overall well-being.

We also enjoy sharing our experiences through fun events, meetups, and community activities that celebrate our love for Dobermans. We are active in the local chapter of Doberman Club of America. We participate in Kennel Club activities in the community such as Responsible Pet Owner Day. Our pups have been known to dress up for Halloween, roll in the Texas Blue Bonnets, and even show their artistic skills paintings! So yes, we take our role seriously, but we never forget to have fun along the way!
